      Our Why

      Founder's Statement

As both a physician and a parent, I deeply understand the concerns that arise when sending a child off to college — especially when health challenges are involved. With decades of experience as a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist serving families in Los Angeles, I have witnessed the profound impact that timely, comprehensive, and high-quality medical care can have on a young person’s well-being.

I founded MyCollegeDoc to ensure students have seamless access to exceptional medical care while away from home. From coordinating primary care physicians to ensuring students have access to the right specialists, we are dedicated to supporting families with what matters most — the health and safety of their child.

At MyCollegeDoc, we empower young adults to take charge of their health with confidence while reassuring parents that their child’s well-being is in the hands of compassionate, experienced professionals  — no matter where their college journey takes them.

      Warmly,
      Brynie Collins, MD
Adjunct Associate Professor of Pediatrics, USC Keck School of Medicine
Diplomate, American Board of Pediatrics’ Subboard of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition

      Common Parent Questions

      Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I enroll my student with MyCollegeDoc?

      • Your student’s physical and mental health are vital to their overall wellbeing.
      • Health challenges have been shown to undermine motivation, engagement, and rates of college completion and graduation.
      • While college students are generally healthy with few medical needs, most get sick from time to time and require medical attention.
      • Knowing your student has a personal relationship with a primary care doctor close to their campus and has access to exceptional, timely medical care will also give you one less thing to worry about

Can’t my child just be seen in a university health clinic?

Existing healthcare services available to college students lack quality, personalized care, efficiency and accessibility. To assess the post pandemic landscape of student health services at roughly 1,700 four-year residential campuses, in 2020 The Washington Post interviewed more than 200 students, parents and health officials and examined thousands of pages of medical records and court documents and 5,500 reviews of student health centers posted on Google. The Post’s biggest takeaways:

      • Inadequate Care: Many college health services appear unprepared. College students reported they commonly waited days or weeks for appointments and were routinely provided substandard care at campus clinics. Dozens of students ended up hospitalized — and some near death — for mistakes they said were made at student health centers.
      • The pandemic has set off a financial crisis for student health care. Budget cuts and efforts to limit student fees have strained resources available for campus medical clinics. Almost three-quarters of 200 schools surveyed close student health centers on the weekend, and two-thirds provide no evening hours at the clinics during the week.

      How does MyCollegeDoc work?

      • Once enrolled with MyCollegeDoc, we will partner your student with an exceptional pediatrician or family doctor near their college or university. Not only is every MyCollegeDoc affiliated doctor highly vetted and board certified, but they are also well established in their local medical community. This means they will know the top specialists in town and can often arrange preferential scheduling when your student needs it most.
      • MyCollegeDoc will also assist with the transfer of your student’s medical records to their new provider.
      • MyCollegeDoc will also assist with setting up an initial visit with your student’s new provider. This can be a telemedicine visit while your child is still living at home with you, so that you may establish care and put a face to the person who will be caring for your student.
      • Additionally, MyCollegeDoc will provide your family with important documents that will allow you as a parent to communicate with your student’s doctor with their permission, while they are away at school.

Do students have to be Freshman to enroll in MyCollegeDoc?

Absolutely not. Students can enroll in MyCollegeDoc any time during their undergraduate academic career.

What happens when my child’s college doctor is on vacation?

If your student’s doctor is on vacation, they will arrange a covering physician to care for their patients. Your student will continue to have full access to the same quality care including same day appointments and 24 hr on-call coverage.

Is telemedicine available from doctors affiliated with MyCollegeDoc?

Yes. Individual physicians will vary in their telehealth schedules, but all affiliated physicians will provide telemedicine.

Can doctors affiliated with MyCollegeDoc refill my child’s prescriptions?

In general yes. There are however a few exceptions to this for some medications that require a specialized license.

      How much does MyCollegeDoc cost?

The yearly membership fee is as follows:

      • Year 1 $1,800
      • Year 2 $1,600
      • Year 3 $1,300
      • Year 4 $1,300

Will my child’s college doctor accept my health insurance, even if it is from another state?

All MyCollegeDoc affiliated doctors accept private healthy insurance. Doctors will bill insurance using their standard billing procedures and members will be responsible for any copays, coinsurances and deductibles for services provided.
